What is a Liposome?

The Tiny Architecture Behind Liposomal Skincare

Liposomes are microscopic, spherical vesicles made from phospholipid bilayers, similar to the lipid structures found in cell membranes. They encapsulate water- soluble (hydrophilic) and oil-soluble (lipophilic) active ingredients, protecting them and supporting delivery into the skin

THE SCIENTIFIC DIFFERENCE

How Liposomal Systems Compare with Conventional Serum

By shielding sensitive actives within biomimetic phospholipid vesicles, liposomal encapsulation prevents premature degradation and enhances cellular uptake compared to conventional delivery

Parameter Conventional Delivery Liposomal Delivery
Average Size Macro-molecular actives cannot reach deeper dermal layers Nanoscale vesicles allow enhanced dermal penetration
Skin Absorption Limited absorption; permeation hindered by the hydrophobic stratum corneum High absorption via membrane fusion
Bioavailability Low bioavailability (~5-10%) Up to 4 to 10 times higher cellular uptake
Stability Extremely fragile; rapid degradation into inactive form Actives shielded from light, oxygen, and metallic ions
Release Kinetics Extremely fragile; rapid degradation into inactive form Sustained release over 24 h delivery
Skin Interaction High risk of stinging, redness, and inflammatio Minimal irritation; well-tolerated across sensitive skin
Shelf-Life Integrity Prone to browning, oxidation, and precipitous potency loss Stable colour and physical integrity across ambient storage
Best Suited For General topical formulations Liposomal skincare targets skin treatment
Efficacy Marginal dermal impact; mostly superficial exfoliation/hydration Clinically validated upregulation of procollagen and photo-repair markers

What We Observed in Our R&D

A Simple 24-Hour Oxidation Trial

Our R&D team conducted a simple 24-hour oxidation trial using apple slices. We dipped separate apple slices in plain glutathione serum and liposomal glutathione serum for a few seconds, then left them exposed to air for 24 hours. After 24 hours, the slice treated with plain glutathione showed visible browning, while the slice treated with liposomal glutathione serum remained visibly fresher. This visual demonstration shows how liposomal encapsulation stabilises active glutathione, delivering 24 hr antioxidant protection against environmental exposure and free-radical stress

Liposomal Delivery System

How Liposomal Delivery Works

01
Encapsulate

Actives sealed in lipid sphere

Bioactive molecules are enclosed within lipid vesicles composed of natural phospholipids.

  • Phospholipid Bilayer
  • Encapsulation
  • Bioavailability
02
Stabilise

Molecular integrity preserved

The liposome protects sensitive actives against enzymatic breakdown, hydrolysis, and UV degradation. Preserves molecular integrity throughout formulation and storage.

  • Stability
  • Extended Shelf-Life
  • Oxidative Defense
03
PENETRATE

Reaches deep transepidermal layer

The biomimicking liposomes interacts with the skin and passes the stratum corneum barrier. This enables enhanced dermal penetration of actives rather than surface pooling.

  • Dermal-Depth Delivery
  • Deep penetration
04
Release

Targeted release of the actives

Upon reaching the target sites, liposomal vesicles fuse directly with cell membranes and release the entrapped actives in a controlled manner.

  • Membrane Fusion
  • Controlled Release
  • Intracellular Delivery
05
Perform

Deep cellular rejuvenation

Within cells, the actives upregulate protein synthesis, stimulate cellular turnover, and combat oxidative damage. The result is visibly smoother, firmer, and revitalised skin.

A liposome is a microscopic spherical vesicle made from phospholipid bilayers, similar to the skin's natural cell membranes. It can encapsulate active ingredients and help deliver them in a more stable and effective form, supporting better interaction with the skin.

The primary benefits include deep skin delivery, higher cellular bioavailability, sustained 24-hour active release, reduced ingredient oxidation, and significantly less skin irritation

Yes, because their phospholipid bilayer mimics our cellular membranes, enabling them to interact more with skin cells and deliver actives to dermal cells more effectively than conventional formulations.

SiNORA liposomal products are formulated by encapsulating active ingredients within biocompatible phospholipid bilayers in collaboration with LipoEdgeTM technology. achieving high entrapment efficiency (>80%) and a precise nanoscale vesicle size (<300 nm) for superior stability and absorption.

The skin barrier naturally repels large molecules. Our nanoscale liposomal formulation can easily navigate intercellular pathways, ensuring consistent dermal permeation rather than surface accumulation
